my beta guy who reads chinese got all the airtime for this version. my first
try at improved language support had a lot of problems, so this version fixes
them, hopefully. so i didn't get much done on filtering, and the next version
isn't going to have it either. people have been approaching me about doing
localizations, and i feel really bad that i have to tell them that i'm not
ready for that yet. non-english-speakers are a pet audience of mine, and
obviously those people will be easier to attract if i've got localizations.
so i'll work on that next.

michael, i assume you will want to do the german version. you could start by
translating the docs, if you want.

this one is going to be public from the start. here you go:

Uh, does that mean real work? What have I gotten myself into...
I know I started to translate a selection of the most common terms in PNews
for the BeOS version (unfortunately the translation never happend), but I
believe I'm still lacking a decent German term for "catch-up" because the
literal translation just sounds wrong to me.

And I went straight to the journal - what, not released yet?!?

BTW, am I the only one now using the journal for feedback? The comments for
the last two versions are so awfully empty...

just do a little bit at a time. an hour here, an hour there. it will be
awhile until i'm ready for localizations, anyway.

there will be a separate Credits.html file for each localization, so you can
put yourself in the about box for the german translation. how's that for an
incentive?

i just forgot to update that thing.

you old-timers have mostly worn down your paths through the program, and i've
fixed the bugs surrounding those paths. i don't expect i'll hear much from
the old guard until i get filtering implemented, and maybe do a few of those
internal speed-ups i've been meaning to get to.

also, i'm having trouble getting the new guys to use the community. they'd
rather e-mail me. i think i've nearly got ciprol "trained," though. heh!

Sure, but a decent translation is hardly trivial, so it'll take some effort
too. Any hints what parts of the documentation is not going to change in the
near future? I'd hate it to do the work twice...

BTW, sorry for the delay, but I'm really tired at the moment - maybe I'm
entering the stage of winter hibernation...

YAY! But I'm definately not going to do it to get my name out, since it's "out
there" already.

I noticed. Good to see that you've got another tester who tackles different
parts of the application.

i don't think it's reasonable to expect the docs to never change. if i add
new features, they have to be documented.

i'll add a section to the changelog that says what parts of the docs have
changed, that's the best i can do. probably starting with the next version,
because i believe riba has started on the croatian (!) localization. you
could hold off and only update your localization after every X versions, or
something.

that's because my web "design" "skills" have not advanced at all since 1997.
no css, no divs, no spans, nothing that's in any way sophisticated. that page
would probably look GREAT in netscape navigator 1.0, but only if you have the
*full* 8mb of ram (GASP!) that only rich folks can afford.
